The Broad Impact of Brain Injury

Causes, Demographics, and Societal Burden

Brain injury is a major public health issue that affects people of all ages and backgrounds. While certain groups—such as young males, the elderly, and veterans—experience higher rates, brain injury is not limited to any one demographic.

The causes of brain injury vary by population. Falls are the leading cause among both children and older adults, while veterans are often affected by combat-related trauma, especially blast injuries. In addition to acute trauma, brain injury also includes progressive conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, ALS, and stroke, all of which gradually impair brain function.

The consequences of brain injury are far-reaching. Physical, cognitive, and emotional impairments disrupt not only the lives of individuals but also place significant strain on families, caregivers, and society as a whole through increased healthcare demands and lost productivity.

Our Mission: Igniting Brain Renewal

Hope for millions.   Healing for the brain.   A future we can build—together.

We’re working to speed up the discovery of breakthrough therapies that can restore lost brain function and regenerate the neural networks once thought permanently damaged.

For the millions living with the effects of brain injuries, strokes, and neurodegenerative diseases, this isn’t just research, it’s a lifeline. It's the chance to speak again. To walk again. To remember.

We believe brain renewal isn’t just possible, it’s within reach. And we’re not waiting. We’re making it happen.

By funding cutting-edge research, backing bold scientific partnerships, and rallying public support, we’re helping shape the next chapter in neuroscience.

Our efforts are led by a community of brilliant researchers including those behind the ambitious Cajal’s Challenge. Cajal's Challenge is the effort to regrow neurons for those with brain injuries. Our co-founders, Lynda and Madeline, whose personal story inspires supporting the work.

This isn’t just a mission. It’s a movement to prove the brain can heal and to make that healing available to everyone.

Join us. Fuel the science. Restore lives. Donate today.

Our Approach

United for Brain Renewal

Awareness fuels action—and action fuels discovery. That’s why our approach goes beyond traditional fundraising. We’re building a vibrant, inclusive movement that brings together people from all walks of life, united by one goal: to make brain regeneration a reality.

We’re working side by side with:

•    Students who bring fresh energy and ideas
•    Social media influencers who amplify our message to millions
•    Survivors of brain injury whose stories inspire and guide our mission
•    Parents and teachers who advocate for a future where healing is possible
•    World-class scientists who are pushing the boundaries of neuroscience

Together, we’re raising awareness, breaking down stigma, and creating a groundswell of support for the research that could restore lost brain function.

This is more than a campaign—it’s a collective commitment to a better future. We believe that change happens when the scientific community and the public join hands, speak out, and stand up for what’s possible.

Because when everyone plays a part, healing becomes a shared victory.

WHY SUPPORT US?

When you support The Brain Renewal Project, you are part of a passionate movement dedicated to rewriting the future for those living with brain injuries and neurodegenerative disorders. Together, we can bring hope, healing, and a brighter tomorrow by seeking out and funding the most promising research and treatments for those with brain injury.
